Good doctor report

We had Aidan's follow-up with the ENT and audiologist and everything is great. Her hearing is normal and her ears look great. Aidan thought the hearing tests were OK, but didn't want anything to do with the doctor. We go back in 6 months for another follow-up to check the tubes and make sure they are still working OK. That's about all that's exciting right now in the world of Aidan.

One little girl standing up in bed...

...fell out of bed and bumped her head. Mommy called the doctor and the doctor said, "Can you come in at 9:00?"

Yes, Aidan fell out of her crib this morning about 4:00. She woke up about 3:30 and I went in settled her down and left her to go to sleep. It appears that she decided to come find me and leaned too far over the rail (even though we had the mattress dropped) and fell. Fortunately, it doesn't appear that she really hurt herself - so signs of head injury, broken things, or soft tissue injuries and she's acting like herself once she got calmed down from the scare of it. There's one more level we can drop the mattress, which we think it really for the toddler bed conversion, but we are going to use it! It scared all of us a lot. We are just thankful Aidan's OK.

Developmental updates

Aidan has had a busy several days, trying out new skills. In typical Aidan fashion, she'll do them consistently for a day and then take a break for a time and come back to them, but I still think they count. :-) Let's see...

She pointed to Lexa when I asked her "Where's the dog?" She did this 3 times in a row (I was trying to distract her because she wanted to eat my ice cream).

She stood up in front of her push car (see picture of car she is riding on below), held on to the steering wheel (and Christianne held on to the back to keep the progress slow) and Aidan took several steps. She's also taken some steps while holding my hands.

She looked in the mirror of a toy she was playing with and said, "A...Den" before putting her nose up against the mirror. She did this several times with Christianne.

She waved "bye-bye" to me this morning at daycare.

Seems like there was something else, but I'm not sure what it was. She's doing well with her solid foods. Oh, we went out to eat twice this weekend and both times Aidan ate her meals with us, feeding herself the food we brought along (and a few bites off mommy's plate). And we didn't leave with too much food on the floor. Fun times - family dining!

That's all for now.

Pre-surgery picture

Christianne figured out how to get this picture off her phone so I thought I would share it with you. Aidan loved the little hats...

Look! Fish!

Aidan and her mommies went to the Dallas World Aquarium last Saturday. It took us awhile to find the fish, but once we did, Aidan thought it was great!

Aidan has also been practicing her typing skills:

And this is what happens when you give a nearly-naked baby black beans to feed herself:

Aidan says that feeding herself is fun - even if it does take an hour to get through dinner! Last night's dinner consisted of the standard green beans, peas, and carrots; crushed cherrio covered avocado (to make it easier to pick up); black beans; and plain macarroni. Yum, yum!

Ummmm....good!

I just thought I would update you, for those who are curious, about Aidan's latest food obsession: canned (yes, canned) peas, carrots, and green beans. She would eat them exclusively for every meal if she could. You should see her shovel them in - sometimes two fisted! Tonight, she also ate avocado (from a spoon as it is difficult to pick up) and black beans (only if she could feed herself). She also drank a whole jar of chicken vegetable soup (of the baby variety) and then, 30 minutes later, polished off a 5.5 ounce bottle. Can you believe it? Yesterday, I was eating some cold spaghetti with meat sauce and she crawled over, pulled herself up on my leg, and did baby bird until I shared with her. It was really cute. She's doing well with her tubes and her cold is almost over. I'm hoping that the tubes have prevented a new ear infection from the cold. Please God! One week until we go back to the ENT for a check-up. Tomorrow is the last day for ear drops. Aidan has been such a trooper with them. She never complained a bit. And I learned why you warm ear drops: if you don't it will make the little one dizzy and that's why the fuss. I carried the drops around close to me for awhile before putting them in and she thought nothing of it.

On an unrelated note, if anyone out there is thinking about using Zicam (the nose gel swabs - also Cold-eze one too) for cold, please reconsider. A dear friend of mine used it for 3 days and she has (temporarily, we hope and pray) lost her sense of smell completely. There appear to be a bunch of cases and even lawsuits out there, but I had never heard about this potential bad side effect. We think "natural" automatically means safe, but that's not always the case. Just something to think about.

Time to finish getting ready for tomorrow and hit the sack. Aidan's sleeping through the night again, but waking up at 5:00 or so. It is brutal!

I can hear clearly now, the tubes are in...

Aidan got her tubes this morning and everything went really well. The doctors and nurses were wonderful and Aidan came through the procedure like a champ. She wasn't even fussy until we got in the car and then she let us have it. :-) But that was over within 20 minutes or so and then she sucked down a bottle and went to sleep. She took a good long nap this morning and now her mama is feeding her lunch. Last night, the only thing she would eat for dinner was canned green beans. She was obsessed with them! Little thing probably ate close to 1/2 a cup! We promised her some green beans for dessert after lunch. Thanks for all the good thoughts and prayers.

Here are some recent cute photos of her.
